Over the past few week I have had the joy and privilege of coaching my daughters under 10 basketball team. To watch these girls take on mostly all boys teams and learn to play together as a team, while gaining confidence in themselves, has been something I will always cherish.
However I have also witnessed something that I did not expect to see and which has left me disappointed and surprised: The ugly parent syndrome. Read the rest of this entry »

I am very keen to speak to anyone out there who has or knows of someone with a property that fits the above description. It must be suitable for horses and be within about 20 minutes of Geelong. It can be either vacant or have a house. And it can be anywhere between 10 and 40 acres. Preferred areas are Modewarre, Moriac, Ceres, Lovely Banks, Wallington, Mt Duneed, however will consider all areas for the right property.
Please contact me ASAP if you know of or own such a property as my buyers are keen to make an offer.

Ok – so this is a bit like getting hassled with someone’s baby photos, or hours filing through travel photos from Aunty Joan’s European vacation…
This is my new baby so please allow me to indulge myself a moment:
Here is a photo of Alliance Real Estate’s first signboard installation at 1395 Cape Otway Road.

Three years ago when I owned design and marketing agency Ego Creative in Perth, we were well aware that video marketing was an emerging force in marketing. We were keen to explore the potential of video marketing and its benefits for our clients in promoting their businesses. We were beginning to offer it as an area of specialty to offer to small, medium and large businesses the opportunity to market themselves through video to an online audience.
The problem we were faced with was that we were probably about two years ahead of ourselves and were in some ways pioneers in this field. While pioneering can be great fun it can send you broke as a small business as well. And we did have fun. We were the first in Australia to provide a live online stream of a daily live television program when we partnered with iiNet to stream our breakfast TV program Wake Up! WA. We streamed the WA Symphony Orchestra live online, and created online video marketing and education series for corporate clients.
Now, 3 years later, video is very much here as a marketing force to be reckoned with. This is particularly relevant for the real estate industry. Read the rest of this entry »

I love this time of year. It gives me a chance to slow down for a couple of weeks and contemplate what the year that has been has meant, what I can learn from it and how I can do things better in the year to come.
For me, 2011 has been a year of great contrasts. From it I have learned three very valuable lessons: Read the rest of this entry »

I am happy to admit it – I am not a morning person. Traditionally I have been more suited to working late into the night than rises with the birds. Over time three things have altered that: Owning my own business, becoming a parent, and occasional bouts of insomnia.
Not that it is any easier now. I can still very easily choose the comfort of a warm and cosy bed than the fresh morning air and chirps of the birds as they set about whatever it is birds do at that time of the morning.

When I do happen to drag myself out to face the sunrise, it is a real treat. To live by the sea is a treat in itself and to not make the most of that seems a crime on the infrequent occasions that I do. That’s why I am often grateful for my early morning insomnia, or those mornings when I make that extra effort to face the dawn. To have the luxury of walking to the beach and experiencing the blood orange sun rise up from the silver ocean, to have the entire beach to yourself even if only for a few minutes, and to just have a few moments quiet contemplation to help clear the way for a brilliant day.
In the 8 years we lived in Perth, we would often head down to City Beach to watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean horizon. The view directly West made it a splendid vantage point as each day gave way to the night. Now, in Torquay, we are equally blessed to be able to witness the sun turn its full cycle as it pokes its head above the Eastern horizon.
It may be true that the Perth version suited my night owl tendencies much better, but I’m certainly not about the complain!
